The Phyang Gompa or MOnastery is located at a distance of 6 km from the Srinagar- Leh highway and 17 km from Leh that stands on a hillock. This monastery was constructed in the 16th century by the Namgyal head. You will discover hundreds of wooden and bronze statues of all Buddhist Goddesses and gods collectively.

This is also the home to the biggest Thangkas and showcases the collection of Tibetan, Mongolian and Chinese weapons and firearms. The major tourist attraction in this monastery or gompa is the 900 years old museum that is filled with idols and thangkas apart from weapons and ammunition. You get to celebrate the festival of Gang-Sngon Tsedup that is held in the second week of the first month of the Tibetan Calendar and the delights include mask dances, folk dances, and rituals performed by the monks of the Gompa.
