Drive Times and Travel Tips

• Local taxis in Pahalgam: outside cars are not allowed to Betaab Valley, Aru Valley or Chandanwari. You hire a local union taxi at a fixed rate, paid on the spot.
• Gulmarg gondola: book tickets online in advance and take the morning slot. Phase 2 (to Apharwat) often shuts in high wind or snowfall.
• Tulip Garden: the Srinagar tulip garden is open only for about 3 to 4 weeks, usually late March to mid-April.
• Keep a buffer day: if you travel by road from Jammu, landslides or snow can close the highway for a day.
• Carry cash: pony rides, shikaras and small shops in remote areas often do not accept digital payment.
• Carry original ID: physical Aadhaar, Voter ID or Passport. Digital copies often fail security checks.
• Mobile network: prepaid SIM cards from outside Jammu and Kashmir do not work. Use a postpaid connection.
• No late-night drives: avoid isolated mountain roads after dark.
• Check what is open: some meadows and trails closed after April 2025 have reopened in phases. Ask us which spots are open for your dates.
