The beautiful landscapes, scenic villages, and historic buildings of the land have creation peacefulness, some of the country's oldest temples and monasteries are here. Since the nation's only airstrip is also here, most trips to Bhutan begin and end in Paro. It's an unusually enchanting place of welcome, and one you will always remember.

The valley of Paro has many interesting sites and requires a few days to be properly explored. Paro tour packages sightseeing includes ,The ruins of Drukgyel Dzone, at the end of the valley, is a magnificent place to view the towering peak of Mount Chomolhari. Also of interest is the National Museum, which is in a converted 17th century watchtower. The museum has an extensive collection of Bhutanese artifacts. Situated in a commanding viewpoint at the eastern end of the Paro valley, the Paro Dzong, also called "the fortress of the heap of jewels, is an architectural wonder.

Once of the country's most sacred pilgrimage sites, Taktsang Lhakhang, or the "Tiger's Nest," Clings to sheer cliffs high above the valley. The trek uphill to the monastery is exhilarating, and the views are breathtaking. In 1998, a fire destroyed the Taktsang's medieval wall paintings and all the inner temples. Reconstruction of this landmark site has been done since then.

Information on Thimphu

The city of Thimphu lies in a broad valley, on a sprawling hillside on the banks of the Thimpu River. At an altitude of 7,600 ft, Thimphu is unlike any other capital in the world. A small rural settlement until the late 1970s, it is now home to approximately 40,000 people.

The sightseeing in Thimphu Tour packages include Tashichho Dzong , which not only houses the throne of His Majesty the king of Bhutan, also is the summer residence of the venerated monastic community is also Bhutan's administrative and religious center. The colossal building is set on the banks of the river, surrounded by weeping willows. Opposite the dzong, on the other side of the river, is the National Assembly Hall.

Other place of interest in Thimphu include the National Library, which houses a vast collection of historic and religious literature; the Painting school, which teaches traditional styles of thangka paintings, wood carving, ceramics, papermaking, and weaving; and the memorial Chorten, an important landmark that was built in 1974 by the mother of the third king of Bhutan, in memory of her son.

One of the delightful quirks of this capital city is its complete luck of traffic lights. Stationed at two traffic circles, traffic police stand on wooden pedestal and direct cars with graceful hand gestures, often replicating the movement of a dancer.

In order to preserve the Kingdom's national identity, all new buildings in Bhutan must be designed in traditional style. The streets are spotless, there are no beggars, and prayer flags flutter in the wind, casting shadows on the intricately painted and carved buildings. The streets are dotted with monks in saffrom-color robes, women in vivid kiras (dresses), and men in gbos (traditional dress for males), the Bhutanese formal dress. The town of Thimphu is, quite simply, stunning.
