About Jaisalmer and Jodhpur Combination Tours Package.

The combination tours of Jodhpur and Jaisalmer gives a perfect insight to the interiors of Rajasthan , Both the cities although not too far from each other have different cultures , cuisines and have huge variatiion in the practises and traditions the local follow. The origins of the city of Jaisalmer can essentially be traced to the fort whence the population started to spill downwards in what is called the talhatti, around the 16th century A.D., creating a nucleus around which the irregular polygon that is the city of jaisalmer finally emerged.

Some of the better-known havelis, quite evidently reflecting the wealth of the trading community, palaces and temples are located in the city, which also house some quaint shops, restaurants, offices of tour operators and various hotels. Walking is the best way to savour the flavor of the city, for an almost mystical magic begins to spin itself slowly but surely. The streets run on a gridiron pattern, although they form neither straight lines nor do they ever meet at rigid angels. They do however help in imposing order on a city that grew in a haphazard way, by dividing it in loose rectangular blocks with closely knit buildings. The streets here are more than just paths, never more than 12 feet wide, yet used by children to play, by the elders to relax and smoke, for the ramrod-straight Rajaput to go about his daily chores, for the women to gossip and of course for the cows to slowly amble along.

Not infrequent is the sight of a colourful barat (wedding party) or gaily dressed women on their way to the ancient temple. It is on these streets that the modern and the ancient mesh in a strange almost surreal fashion, where internet cafes stand next to small dark shops selling traditional utensils in a time-hallowed way. Neon-coloured packets of crisps, open stacks od spices and crates of Pepsi jostle with artefacts.

Houses in Jaisalmer, seem to belong to a dream sequence from a movie set. Unimaginably beautiful, but inhabited by people who seem oblivious to their uniqueness. The city, however, displays a strong sense of anonymity to the visitor, which is essentially a cultural trait and finds expression in the architecture of the city. The concept of privacy is very evident in the house from in Jaisalmer.

Public spaces in Jaisalmer may be classified according to the type. The major categories are the Royal Square in the centre of the upper city; public spaces like Gandhi Chowk and community spaces at the level of the residential cluster. Gandhi Chowk, Gopa Chowk and Jindani Chowk are market square all located in the lower city. These squares build part of a sequence of spaces and streets forming the main bazaar. Starting with Gandhi Chowk (so named in recent years) just inside the western wall of the lower city, one goes past Jindani Chowk along the way to Gopa Chowk, the latter being the main market square. Gopa Chowk is closely linked with the entry gate to the upper city and has an informal quality due to the diversity of activities the take place there.

There are a lot of day excursions which could be done from Jaisalmer , the most popular of these excursions is an excursion to Sam Dunes .
