Thimphu, the capital city is an hour and a half drive from the Paro airport, the distance of about 55kms from Paro town and about 50km from airport. We drove south following Pachu River to the river confluence at Chuzom. Through out the route , ancient monestries dot the hills surrounding the valley, traffic is low and organised. Thimphu welcomes you with clean roads, no traffic signals, no malls or cinema halls, people walking around on easy pace; the city seems to have no stress levels.<\/p>\n

The Taj Tashi is situated in the city centre and is luxury at its best with a 24 hour coffee shop, a bar, a restaurant -serving Bhutanese cuisine, rooms are extremely modern and Wi-Fi enabled .Walkable distance from the hotel are handicraft \/ souvenir shops and a very interesting post office selling variety of stamps – a must visit for a stamp collector !.<\/p>\n
Sightseeing next day in Thimphu revolved around the magnificent Palace and a number of monestaries which were spread out all over the town. Textile museum gave a glimpse of Bhutanese textile history as well as the latest clothing trends in Bhutan. Half an hour outside the town on a hill top ,is a budha statue considered to be the largest in the world ,this spot also offers stunning views of the town.<\/p>\n
Third day was blocked for an excursion to Paro – I visited the Taktsang Monastery, (Tiger’s Nest) in Paro – which is the unofficial symbol of Bhutan ,it is perched on the edge of a 1,200 meter cliff, this monastery creates an impressive sight. It is about 2-3 hour, totally up-hill hike from the parking lot to the monastery. The hike up to the Tiger’s Nest can be very strenuous and you can rent a horse to bring up the mountain. The horse ride is a one-way trip (this is recommended if you are not very fit and may face altitude sickness) and you have to make your way down the mountain by foot. Taktsang was established as a sacred place for meditation by Guru Rinpoche who visited the site on his second visit to Bhutan in 747 CE.We also visited the temples and monasteries in the Paro city and checked out the hotels Aman and Uma Paro. Evening was spending in the clock tower square in Thimphu tasting local Beer and steamed momos.<\/p>\n

Fourth day was a departure back to Delhi, Summing up as a Travel counselor I would say the Bhutan offers a mix of history and nature with a dash of adventure activities, It is not a typical holiday where the main focus is shopping or visiting water parks \/ theme parks, Holiday to Bhutan would give an opportunity to reconnect with your family and also re-establish the connect with nature which is so very lost in a regular metro city life..<\/p>\n

We drove south following Pachu River to the river confluence at Chuzom. Through out the route , ancient monestries dot the hills surrounding the valley, traffic is low and organised. Thimphu welcomes you with clean roads, no traffic signals, no malls or cinema halls, people walking around on easy pace; the city seems to have no stress levels.<\/p>\n Taj Tashi Bhutan<\/p><\/div>\n The Taj Tashi is situated in the city centre and is luxury at its best with a 24 hour coffee shop, a bar, a restaurant -serving Bhutanese cuisine, rooms are extremely modern and Wi-Fi enabled .Walkable distance from the hotel are handicraft \/ souvenir shops and a very interesting post office selling variety of stamps – a must visit for a stamp collector !.<\/p>\n Sightseeing next day in Thimphu revolved around the magnificent Palace and a number of monestaries which were spread out all over the town. Textile museum gave a glimpse of Bhutanese textile history as well as the latest clothing trends in Bhutan. Half an hour outside the town on a hill top ,is a budha statue considered to be the largest in the world ,this spot also offers stunning views of the town.<\/p>\n Third day was blocked for an excursion to Paro – I visited the Taktsang Monastery, (Tiger’s Nest) in Paro – which is the unofficial symbol of Bhutan ,it is perched on the edge of a 1,200 meter cliff, this monastery creates an impressive sight. It is about 2-3 hour, totally up-hill hike from the parking lot to the monastery. The hike up to the Tiger’s Nest can be very strenuous and you can rent a horse to bring up the mountain. The horse ride is a one-way trip (this is recommended if you are not very fit and may face altitude sickness) and you have to make your way down the mountain by foot. Taktsang was established as a sacred place for meditation by Guru Rinpoche who visited the site on his second visit to Bhutan in 747 CE.We also visited the temples and monasteries in the Paro city and checked out the hotels Aman and Uma Paro.
